Easter Pilgrimage to the Forgiveness Cross

"Memory Mountain is more than a geographical landmark; it's a touchstone for reflection and remembrance. As pilgrims ascend its rugged trails, the mountain seems to whisper tales of bygone times, holding within its folds stories of pain, joy, loss, and hope. There's a palpable sense of connection here, a feeling of being part of a greater narrative that spans millennia.
But it is at the apex, where the Forgiveness Cross stands tall against the vast expanse of the Red Centre, that the pilgrimage reaches its emotional zenith. The cross is not just a symbol; it's an invitation. An invitation to let go of past burdens, to mend broken bridges, and to step into the future with a heart unburdened. Standing before it, one can't help but be enveloped in its powerful aura, drawing forth tears, memories, and silent prayers.
Memory Mountain – or Kurrkalnga Puli in the local Lutitja language – lies within the West MacDonnell Ranges, 230 kms west of Alice Springs, in the geographic centre of Australia. The 20 metre Forgiveness Cross on top of the mountain is a profound symbol of reconciliation and unity. When asked why the aboriginal community chose the name ‘Forgiveness Cross’, Ikuntji elder, Douglas Multa, said simply: “We can’t have unity without forgiveness, and both white fellas and black fellas need forgiveness.”

Continuing Our Faith Journey
The Church is living the "Year of the Holy Spirit" and invites all parishioners to explore what that means to become a 'synodal Church', grounded in our shared understanding of evangelisation, discipleship and mission. The Archdiocesan web site [ https://www.cgevangelisation.org.au/year-of-the-holy-spirit/ ] details activities at the Archdiocesan level. The document "Blackfriars Parish - Continuing Our Faith Journey', in the SPECIAL NOTICES repository on the left side of this web page, summarises Blackfriars Parish response to date and calls for your input.
