The Sacred Heart Church, situated on the corner of Loftus and DeBoos Streets, was completed in 1908 and was the second church to have been built on that site. It marks the focal point for the Catholic community in the region.
Plans for the building were drawn up by Messrs Kempson & Connolly of Melbourne. The building contract went to Mr C.O. Ruff of Melbourne and the foundation stone was laid on 3rd March, 1907, by the Right Reverend John Gallagher, Bishop of Goulburn. The completed church was blessed and opened in October, 1908.
The Sacred Heart Church is only one of several brick buildings within the Catholic precinct. The others are St Mary's Presbytery, St Joseph's Hall, St Anne's Central School and St Brigid's Convent which in recent years has been utilised as a school administration block. The Sacred Heart Church and all the impressive Catholic buildings in Temora are reminders of the wealth of Temora in the goldrush days.
