On 1st August 1998, the Missionaries of God's Love were entrusted with the care of St Benedict's Parish in a similar way to that in which other parishes are entrusted to the care of a Religious Order or Congregation. In addition to the provision of pastoral care to the parish, it was agreed that the Missionaries of God's Love would establish a Eucharistic Centre in the Church for the Canberra region.
At this time, Father Ken Barker was appointed as Parish Priest, taking over from Father Kevin Flynn, with Father David Tremble as his Assistant Priest. The entrustment of the Parish to the Missionaries of God's Love was approved by Archbishop Francis Carroll.
St Benedict's Eucharistic Centre was co-located in but separate to the Parish of St Benedict's Narrabundah, a Missionary Eucharistic Communion that fostered spiritual growth and development within the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn. Eventually the Eucharistic Centre was renamed the St Benedict's Mission Centre and still operates today.
Currently, the Mission Centre takes care of the Friday Healing Mass, the Sunday Charismatic Mass and organises extended Adoration throughout the week. The Mission Centre serves those in the archdiocese and wider church. The Mission Centre offers opportunities for guest speakers, conferences and retreats.
The Mission Centre also runs the Street Ministry in the City Centre of Canberra, taking the Gospel to those in need.
