The parish of Braidwood was established in 1851 in response to the gold rush. The Church of St Bede’s Braidwood was built in 1866.
This was followed by St Brigid’s Church Krawarree in 1890, St Patrick’s Church Araluen in 1940 and Mary Help of Christians Church Nerriga in 1957.
The current population of the area is 3,357 with a Catholic population of 813.
